Why compression?

Support for the way you move, work, and live.

Long days can be demanding on your legs. Whether you are caring for patients, teaching in a classroom, styling hair, traveling, serving customers, working at a desk, or simply spending hours on your feet, your legs are working with you throughout the day.

ELEVARE was created around a simple idea: compression should not be limited to one profession.

It can be part of an everyday approach to supporting leg comfort for people whose work and lifestyles involve prolonged standing or sitting.

What happens during a long day?

01

Gravity is always working

When you are upright, gravity influences the movement of blood and fluid within the lower extremities. Normally, movement of the legs and contraction of the calf muscles help support the return of venous blood from the legs toward the heart. When you remain in one position for long periods — particularly prolonged standing — fluid can accumulate in the lower legs. Research has associated prolonged occupational standing with lower-extremity discomfort and swelling, and studies have identified blood pooling as one of the mechanisms associated with standing-related lower-extremity symptoms.

02

Movement matters

Your calf muscles play an important role in venous circulation. Walking and other leg movements activate the calf-muscle pump, helping move venous blood out of the lower legs. That is one reason standing still is not the same as walking. Research comparing prolonged standing with walking has found greater lower-leg swelling and muscle fatigue during prolonged standing, while walking can help counter some of those effects. Your body was designed to move — even during a long shift.

03

Graduated compression adds support

Graduated compression socks are designed to apply controlled pressure to the lower leg, generally with greater compression near the ankle that decreases farther up the leg. Research has shown that graduated compression can influence lower-extremity venous circulation and reduce venous pooling. Studies of people who spend long periods standing or sitting have also found reductions in occupational or evening leg swelling while wearing compression stockings. Think of compression as another layer of support for your legs throughout the day.

04

Support through the shift — and beyond

Research involving people who experience occupational leg swelling and discomfort has found that compression hosiery can help reduce lower-leg swelling and symptoms such as heaviness and discomfort. That matters because demanding days do not belong to one profession: healthcare professionals may work twelve-hour shifts, teachers may spend most of the school day standing, hairstylists and barbers can spend hours behind the chair, retail, hospitality and service professionals may spend an entire shift moving between standing and walking, travelers may remain seated for extended periods — and many people simply want additional leg support during everyday life. ELEVARE is for all of them.

Compression isn’t just for nurses.

We may have been created by a Nurse Practitioner, but we were not created only for healthcare. ELEVARE believes compression belongs wherever long days happen.

Healthcare. Beauty. Education. Hospitality. Retail. Travel. Service professions. Everyday life.

If your day keeps you on your feet — or in one position for extended periods — compression may be worth understanding. Your profession may be different. Your schedule may be different. Your lifestyle may be different. But your legs still deserve support.
